Alewicious-Author's Profile (My Why)
I am a husband and father of five children. At the time I first started writing I was a father of two daughters, Junior and Shrimpy. I had just gotten a divorce from my ex-wife and one of the most difficult decisions that I made was, in the “best interest of the children” was to let them leave Broward, Dade, or Palm Beach county and move all the way to Alberta, Canada (which is where their mother was from).
In the “best interest of their father” I had the opportunity not to allow them to move to Canada and have the opportunity (by distance) to see them more. Geographically, that would have been the best thing to do, but what I did not want is for them to see me every day not being the best version of myself. I would rather have quality time even if it were shorter, than a lot of time and my children seeing me in a way that was unfavorable. But how...My mother who spent well of 30 years working civil service jobs for the U. S. Government, sent me a book called “Dad at a distance”. Once I finally sat down to read this book, I found it very intriguing that one of the ideas was to write letters to keep in touch. My children were born in 1994 and 1996 and did not know how to read, much less how to write a letter.
I had a library of bedtime stories and stories of the children’s bible that I would read to them occasionally, but how cool would it be to write them an actual bedtime story that I could read to them repeatedly but what?
Every time I would take the girls to the airport when they were heading back to Canada, we would not say goodbye to each other. Good-bye seemed to be finite and not expecting to see each other again, so I went back to my childhood, and I would say,
“See you later Alligators.” Naturally, they would respond, “After a while crocodile.”
It was catchy, universal to most kids in the U.S., and it did not seem to make the time spent apart to be finite. So instead of authoring a sad story of fathers and daughters leaving each other and bawling like an injured baby, well that was just me, I thought how could I make the story a lesson and end it with a “catch phrase” that children have been using for decades, centuries.
Thus, Alewicious Eugene Gator or Al E. Gator for short was born. I ask of you to please join us on this journey of storytelling, learning lessons, and learning or just enjoy using funny catchphrases kids are using, that your parents and grandparents used or are still using today.
I want to thank you for your support and for taking this journey with me by leaving you with
